About this ebook

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The book that sparked a revolution and inspired the hit Netflix series Tidying Up with Marie Kondo: the original guide to decluttering your home once and for all.

ONE OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL BOOKS OF THE DECADE—CNN

Despite constant efforts to declutter your home, do papers still accumulate like snowdrifts and clothes pile up like a tangled mess of noodles?

Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes tidying to a whole new level, promising that if you properly simplify and organize your home once, you’ll never have to do it again. Most methods advocate a room-by-room or little-by-little approach, which doom you to pick away at your piles of stuff forever. The KonMari Method, with its revolutionary category-by-category system, leads to lasting results. In fact, none of Kondo’s clients have lapsed (and she still has a three-month waiting list).

With detailed guidance for determining which items in your house “spark joy” (and which don’t), this international bestseller will help you clear your clutter and enjoy the unique magic of a tidy home—and the calm, motivated mindset it can inspire.

I bought the ebook and worked through clothing. Easy peasy. I buy the hardcopy so I can have the book right next to me to review instructions and for moral support. Books, ok, feeling a bit anxious. I'm a bookworm. Getting books out of my house was a bit difficult. Papers, I pulled up a shredder and trashbag and was done in an hour. That was in 2018. Five years later I'm ready to try again. Darn it!! I can't find my hardcopy. I have to buy it again. What does that say about me? LOL!!

I said goodbye to at least 8 bags of clothes recently. It's liberating. I love the idea of giving respect to our possessions and acknowledging their hard work ( clothes for making us warm or feel pretty, bags for carrying things we need throughout the day, socks and shoes for protecting our feet and walking with us rain or shine, house for giving us shelter and space to be completely ourselves...and the list goes on). I'm so happy I found this book :)

At first I was tempted to lazily try to get organized after buying this book. Naturally, I hadn't actually read it and didn't get very far. A few summers ago I decided to do a proper clean up and I've stuck with most aspects ever since! One of the best benefits has been not losing things. Everything has a place and it's much easier to filter what comes in than to keep track of all the items you already own. I feel like I respect what I do own by treating the items as wanted.
