About this ebook

When an ambitious tyrant threatens genocide against the Jews, an inexperienced young queen must take a stand for her people.

When Xerxes, king of Persia, issues a call for beautiful young women, Hadassah, a Jewish orphan living in Susa, is forcibly taken to the palace of the pagan ruler. After months of preparation, the girl known to the Persians as Esther wins the king's heart and a queen's crown. But because her situation is uncertain, she keeps her ethnic identity a secret until she learns that an evil and ambitious man has won the king's permission to exterminate all Jews--young and old, powerful and helpless. Purposely violating an ancient Persian law, she risks her life in order to save her people...and bind her husband's heart.

I was disappointed with the last third of the book. The biblical story of Esther comes up closer to the end and it feels rushed. The majority of the first 2/3 of the book is mostly character and setting build up. And we start off with Esther's voice but end with someone else's. Queen Esther doesn't end her own story. There were some interesting facts and perspectives however.

I picked up this book at the library solely based on the intrigue of the cover. Am I glad I did! I've read this entire series, plus Egypt's Sister, and love them all. To be honest, I had no idea this was a biblical story until the end. It was interesting to read the story out of the Bible and compare. Excited to find some I didn't know about on this page!
