About this ebook

The New York Times bestseller that gives readers a paradigm-shattering new way to think about motivation from the author of When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing

Most people believe that the best way to motivate is with rewards like money—the carrot-and-stick approach. That's a mistake, says Daniel H. Pink (author of To Sell Is Human: The Surprising Truth About Motivating Others). In this provocative and persuasive new book, he asserts that the secret to high performance and satisfaction-at work, at school, and at home—is the deeply human need to direct our own lives, to learn and create new things, and to do better by ourselves and our world.

Drawing on four decades of scientific research on human motivation, Pink exposes the mismatch between what science knows and what business does—and how that affects every aspect of life. He examines the three elements of true motivation—autonomy, mastery, and purpose-and offers smart and surprising techniques for putting these into action in a unique book that will change how we think and transform how we live.

Autonomy : let me work and manage me well so i don't screw up and get stressed.Mastery:i just want to do my job. Purpose: not be stressed. And to be home with this most shortest stress free commute. I am not saying he is incorrect, especially with how technology is driving the workplace. It is just that most of America does not think like how he wants it. Do unto others as they would have done unto themselves. I feel he is out of touch like most successful Americans, and as the last election was surprising to many, there are more surprises ahead. These are good ideas for the few well-to-do. Listen to the many to make a change. This is voice dictation Grandma grammar sticklers LOL

Interesting book and some of the concept makes sense. What I don't like about the book: (1) the way it's written - everything in the book could be covered in less than half the pages yet the author just repeated and repeated and repeated exactly the same points over and over again! What a waste of time! (2) the book could make an interesting read if you are bored and want to kill some time. However if you are like me who is running an organization and is trying to find some better ways to run the organization - then I'd recommend you to skip the book. It raised some good questions, gave some interesting explanations - and the solution bit is far from being helpful.

This book is one of my favorite paradigm shifts. All that one simply needs to do is recall personal experience and/or employ the most atrophied of imaginations to observe the principles outlined. Like " A Whole New Mind" it is easy to understand, yet rich with enough data to make a "T"-type personality blush with 35.7-45.2% coverage.
