I love how Charlie cracks on with things when the hurricane hit while she is visiting home, she is a no nonsense woman so when Jake rocks up and gets hands on instead of just standing there looking pretty she is intrigued and it doesn't hurt that he is hawt. I really like how not only is Charlie trying to work out whether to retire from the Navy but also how she feels about Jake after years of keeping men at arms length. There story is filled with self doubts, attraction, laughs, family members you don't always love as well as lies and miss communications so plenty to keep you hooked until the end! It's a great story however, it does have a running theme of how the media manipulates reality and can hurt the ones you love. Jake and Charlie's relationship is really romantic and they bond over tasks to help rebuild Charlie's hometown after a hurricane but, mistakes are made between the two that lead to some misunderstandings. Of course, much of those stem from the media hunting Jake with a camera in order to produce the most scandalous of gossip. I will admit that Charlie's insecurities over her feelings for Jake and her constant insistance that they are not exclusive did drive me crazy and I wanted to remind her of some of the private conversations that she and Jake had that would dispel her negative thoughts. This was the first book for me from this series as well as the author. I enjoyed the story and characters so much that I will definitely be reading the entire series. Enjoyed the book. Thought the Dr. should have been a little more mature being her age and having completed medical school and navy experience.
