About this ebook

Five coworkers.

Four drinks.

Three glances.

Two fleeting smiles.

One dare.

A dare that will change my life.

That’s all it takes to send me plummeting into the arms of the mysterious Holt Hamilton. Behind his crystal blue eyes is a secret, one that screams danger but calls to me anyway.

My name is Saige Phillips.

I never walk away from a dare.

Dare Me by Rebecca Shea is the first novel in her new Dare Me series. This is my first read of anything from this author although she has been one I have been meaning to read for a while. I'm glad I finally did and i'm glad it was this book. Saige and Holt's story was wonderful. It built slowly to this wonderful crescendo of the big secret reveal and the happily ever after. Told in dual POV we slowly learn more about each character in a very fluid telling of both sides of their stories. Saige is strong and Holt is determined but they both have their own demons to battle and when the truth finally reveals itself it's a heartbreaking moment for all involved (including the reader). Definitely want more from this author.

I was given a copy of this book for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are mine. While this book would be considered a romance, and touches on the effects of a lie-of-omission to a relationship, for me it is more about what effects a family member’s suicide has on others. I personally have been affected by a suicide. And while (unlike Saige) I was not there to witness it, nor there right after, I knew the struggle of trying to understand what drove my younger brother to do this. I am affected every year on the anniversary of that day, every holiday, and, most especially, his birthday. And, while I do not have the nightmares that Saige has, there are undoubtedly many people around the world who have experienced what Saige did. My hope is that anyone who reads this story, and/or knows someone who has experienced what Saige did, can now understand (even if just a little bit) that sometimes the past isn’t as nice for some as it is for others. And that sometimes, when someone has an off day, there may be more to it than what you are lead to believe.
