These mythology tales are creative but well-researched, and the authors in this compilation are fabulous! A cheap and massive compilation that knocks a lot off my TBR list. I'm still reading, but I wanted to say if you like mythology, paranormal, urban fantasy, romance then GRAB IT!!! I bring the Fire by C Gockel is a crafty Loki tale with lots of the expected mischief he brings and some amusing twists and romance that was not expected from Amy, the human vet-in-training he stumbles upon and saves from near-death when he gets tossed to Midgard (Earth) from Asgard with his sons as a punishment by Odin. It's been many many years since he was last there, in Midgard (Earth), and right from their meeting the two are completely baffled by each other; I enjoyed a lot of laughs from Loki learning about modern technology and Amy and her grandmother learning about magic. It's also touching that Loki is just looking for his sons. Be warned: cliffhanger! You'll have to grab the next book! Eros by Helen Harper starts with a jaded and cynical Cupid--Coop--hating his job and entirely disbelieving in the importance of love, to the dismay of his mother, Aphrodite. When he gets so blase he makes a mistake on a mission, he is punished: he becomes invisible. But when he takes his anger out with a plot to torture his long-time nemesis, Apollo, it doesn't take long for it to backfire. And suddenly he is interested in Skye--the British english lit grad he's using in the plot. From here, the story gets more mythological with many more Greek gods and goddesses showing up in Skye and Coop's quests to prove they belong together. Lots of fun, light-hearted, adult themes, and very down-to-earth gods that make it relatable. Elsker by ST Bende is a YA based on norse mythology, my favorite, and focuses on the swoon-worthy Ull, the god of winter, and his attempts to woo the lovely but hesitant Kristia, a freshman at university in Cardiff, Wales, who's more intertwined in the Asgardian world than she thinks before she starts dating Ull. I enjoyed the strong personalities of the characters in this book,particularly the 'side-kicks', like the hilarious Gunnar, Ull's snarky and blunt friend, and Kristia's roommates who like to dress her up and gossip. Warning: this book will make you want an Olaug (Ull's grandma), and Norse waffles! Oh, and the other books in the trilogy (there's also a free prequel that's fantastic).

I was looking for fantasy with romance. The only ones that had definite romance I'd already read in the other box set. The rest of the stories just teased but no romance ever actually happened. Maybe it'll happen later on in book two or three or so on but I don't have patience to spend on that hope. So for me these were all disappointing.

A box set of 13 books that are the first book in each author's series about witches, vampires, werewolves, djinns, psychics & other magical beings. I love all of the authors' writing abilities, the introduction into their new book series & all the magical, fantastic tales of the supernatural powers that most people refuse to believe exist.

About the author

The authors in the Urban Mythic free box set have lived all over the world and have tried their hands at all sorts of professions: from mom, to digital artists, to members of the U.S. Army. But they're all united by their love for fantasy, paranormal, romance, and world mythology!

C. Gockel got her start writing fanfiction, and she is not ashamed! Much. She received emails, messages and reviews from her fans telling her she should 'do this professionally'. She didn't; because she is a coward and life as a digital designer, copywriter and coder is more dependable. But in the end, her husband's nagging wore her down: "Stop writing for free! You could be the next '50 Shades of Gray' and I could retire!" Unfortunately, the author isn't much for writing erotica. She is sad about this; she'd love for her husband to be able to retire and just work for her so she could nag him.

Christine Pope writes as the mood takes her, and her work encompasses paranormal romance, fantasy, science fiction, and historical romance. She blames this on being easily distracted by bright, shiny objects, which could also account for the size of her shoe collection. After spending many years in the magazine publishing industry, she now works as a freelance editor and graphic designer in addition to writing fiction. She fell in love with Sedona, Arizona, while researching the Sedona Trilogy and now makes her home there, surrounded by the red rocks. No alien sightings, though...not yet, anyway!
