About this ebook

In this sizzling short novel from New York Times bestselling author Missy Johnson, a young journalist goes undercover in a world of desire—and gets seduced by the billionaire bachelor she’s supposed to be chasing.

Recent college grad Charlotte Lucas thinks she has found her breakout story. It all begins when she answers a provocative want ad posted by a secretive mogul who happens to be a prime suspect in his girlfriend’s disappearance. Young and inexperienced, Char has never been pushed to the limit—until their games take her to the very edge. Char has gone in looking for the truth, but now she’s in way too deep with a master who plays her body like it belongs to him.

Jaxon Murphy knows a lot more about Char than he lets on. Although the media has made him out to be a monster, he’s not about to come clean about his tormented past—at least not before he turns this good girl bad and sends her out to do his dirty work. After all, Jax didn’t make it to the top without breaking some rules. But as their play grows passionate and achingly real, Jax can’t resist taking a shot at something that’s bigger and more powerful than revenge: love.

This one really wasn't for me but in fairness to the author, I will say that for what the story is, it's well written with some very unique characters. Neither of the main characters really grabbed my interest. Jaxon was/is completely emotionally detached and approached sex in the same detached manor. Charlotte or Char is supposedly the bright college grad looking for her break out story and is willing to freely give her body to someone like Jax for that story. Yeah...not my cup of tea. I really didn't find this as dark as expected nor have the level of kink I anticipated. All around just didn't work for me.

Jaxon Murphy had a rough childhood. His parents and sister were murdered and this altered the way he chose to live his life. He doesn't want a relationship with anyone because he knows they'd just end up leaving him. Now he is part owner and CEO of Hamden & Murphy Enterprises. He was suspected of killing his ex-girlfriend, but they found no proof. Jaxon hires women to live at his mansion to be available for what ever sexual desires he has. He places an ad for a new live-in woman, and Charlotte Lucas answers. Charlotte Lucas is a recent college graduate, with a degree in journalism and business but she cannot find a job. Charlotte's friends convince her to apply for Jaxon's job and maybe she can get the real story behind his parent's murder and his ex-girlfriend's murder. This could be the biggest story of the year and could very well land her a job! Jaxon hires Charlotte and he wants her to help him catch whom he thinks is the person involved in his parents murder. The mystery behind this story was really interesting and fun. What these two didn't realize would happen is that they would fall for each other....hard. The sexual attraction between these two was great. I loved how Charlotte knew that underneath Jaxon hard exterior there was a great man. I really enjoyed the twisted surprise at the end and they way they were able to get the answers they were looking for. Overall this was an enjoyable read.

I liked the idea of this storyline but felt it needed more depth. I also felt the main characters needed to be more developed, I didn't connect with them as much as I would have liked to. Some scenes were disjointed & I had to reread them several times to make sure I hadn't missed anything.
