Publisher Description

Groundbreaking and comprehensive, Driven to Distraction has been a lifeline to the approximately eighteen million Americans who are thought to have ADHD. Now the bestselling book is revised and updated with current medical information for a new generation searching for answers.

Through vivid stories and case histories of patients—both adults and children—Hallowell and Ratey explore the varied forms ADHD takes, from hyperactivity to daydreaming. They dispel common myths, offer helpful coping tools, and give a thorough accounting of all treatment options as well as tips for dealing with a diagnosed child, partner, or family member. But most importantly, they focus on the positives that can come with this “disorder”—including high energy, intuitiveness, creativity, and enthusiasm.

Life Changing

My diagnosis with ADHD was unquestionably the most revelatory, life-changing event of my life. I started medication, and a veil (of which I was not aware) was suddenly lifted from my mind.
Content to figure it out on my own, for six months I experimented, got frustrated, and floundered. Knowing I had ADD was not enough. I had to understand it to manage it.
Enter "Driven to Distraction." It really is as if I'm reading an autobiography at times (where the names have been changed and particulars altered to protect the innocent).
The level of detail in the description, accompanied by wholly-relatable case studies manage to overcome the catch-22 of getting someone who drifts off in the middle of a page to read a 300+ page book.
Whether you are uncertain about a recent diagnosis, in denial about having ADD, or suspect you or someone close to you has ADD, "Driven to Distraction" is truly the essential starting point.
