PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
John Jordan, an ex-cop, onetime minister of a prosperous church and recovering alcoholic, is now chaplain at a Florida state prison. Investigating the murder of an inmate during a faked escape attempt, Jordan encounters prison intrigues and personal temptations. While working with his former father-in-law, a corrections department inspector who hates him, Jordan maintains a frustratingly platonic relationship with a prison manager, sexy Anna Rodden, and harbors impure thoughts about his Fed-Ex delivery driver, Laura. He also fears that he may have AIDS because of exposure to the blood of a wounded HIV-positive inmate. The investigation suggests that a sadistic guard may be smuggling cons out to town for some illegal purpose. The action picks up when a local banker with a prison connection is murdered. A second prisoner is killed, and so is a prisoner's wife. Although Lister, a real-life prison chaplain who knows his turf, delivers gritty portrayals of inmates and prison workers, his first novel turns preachy, and readers drawn to the hard-boiled plot and setting may find the sermons stilted. At least he's morally honest: he offers redemption for his convicts but little false hope of correction for most of them.

Power in the blood
Absolutely riveting!!!!!
Power In The Blood
Spell binding as everything unravels in a very orderly way in the plot. Easy reading, but not lacking in detail and brings readers mental images front and foremost to their minds while reading without even being aware of being carried along in reading.
Flows well as things and story events unravel to reveal the surprise villain at the end.
Grips and holds reader attention from the first chapter all the way to the end. Mr. Lister is able to get the reader to suspend their belief system from the very beginning and takes reader to the level of feeling like they were there as the real world fades away for the reader and all that is there for the reader ...is the "story" they are mentally living word by word.
Very good writing by one who is obviously now a well developed author with his writing. Mr. Lister will for sure be listed among the giants of mysteries.
Power in the Blood
A bit of a convoluted read with a variety of characters. The protagonist is a cop-turned-clergyman at a prison. His better angels fight with his lesser intentions as he navigates the system to catch a killer and sort out a new romance. I did not develop much empathy for the hero and was put off by descriptions of the prison system. Others may find this a better read than I did and I encourage them to give this book a read.
